Obtain your Residential Endorsement!

Trying to aquire your Residential Contractor Endorsement? Look no further!

If you're a General Contractor, obtaining your Residential Endorsment is easy. First of all, it is a requirement from the state that you take an ACHP course, which we call "Advanced Cold Climate Homebuilding Techniques." We give a test at the end of the 16 hour course, and a certificate that allows you to apply for your Residential Endorsement. Our next Advanced Cold Climate Homebuilding Techniques Class in Anchorage is scheduled for April 28 & 29, 2010, from 8am-5pm both days. Registration is required and class size is limited. After taking our course, you'll need to register for the Alaska State Residential Endorsement Exam. For exam registration, contact Prometric via their website at: http://www.prometric.com/Alaska/Construction.htm or by calling Prometric Call Center at 1(800) 280-3926

The next Residential Endorsement Exam date for Anchorage is May 3, 2010. The cutoff date for registering for that exam is April 16, 2010. A $75 exam registration fee is required.

After passing the State of Alaska Exam, you're ready to apply for your Residential Contractor Endorsement! The application is available here. Please be aware that your passing test scores are valid for only 12 months. All of the above items will need to be completed before your test scores expire.

Allen,

The BTU load of 53,300 BTU is based on the Winter design temperature at your location. I dont believe there is a way in the software to extract the BTU loss at 50degrees. You may contact AHFC to ask specifically but I doubt if this can be determined.

Jamison,

If a home rated ar 5 Star in 1996, it would be reasonable to expect it to rate the same today if the home has not changed and the software for the rating is the same. I am not sure if AkWarm was in use in 1996. You could get the transition date from Easy Rater to AkWarm from AHFC. Another issue would be the window efficiency, if the energy value of the windows could not be re-established or if any of the window seals have failed, the windows would have to be entered as a default value which may take the rating down to a 4 Star Plus. It would be helpful to have a copy of the initial 1996 rating to compare the input values.

Yes, I do remember your unique home. The name of the tubing is "Radiant Roll", it is no longer manufactured. If I remember correctly, the operating temperature can be as high as 150 degrees F bur normally should be operated at as low a temperature as possible to keep your floor comfortable. I hope this answers your Questions.

ACHP will be hosting a FREE Advanced Cold Climate Home Building Techniques Course on Friday & Saturday (November 20 & 21) from 8-5pm.

This two-day intensive workshop presents energy-efficient building techniques for Home Inspectors, Builders, Designers, Planners and Homeowners. Participants are taught the latest energy efficient construction techniques.

This workshop has been approved for 16-hours of Continuing Education Credits for home inspectors and residential contractors.

This is ALSO the course required to obtain a Residential Contractor Endorsement from the State of Alaska.

ACHP Goes to Juneau

Alaska Craftsman Home Program is pleased to present a two day consumer education course in Juneau on November 12 and 13. This 2 day course compiles all of the elements of ACHP's eight energy efficiency workshops. Material covered will include:

Day 1
Building Science Basics (8-10 am)
Air Tightness (10am-12pm)
Ice Dams (1-3 pm)
Lighting and Appliances (3-5pm)

Day 2
Heating and Hot Water (8-10am),
Doors and Windows (10am-12pm)
Insulation (1-3pm)
